Policeman shot GhanaianA policeman, identified as Prapra, on Tuesday shot a Ghanaian at the Aroma area of  Awka, the  Anambra State capital.

The Ghanaian, identified simply as Andem, was said to be an electrician.

He was said to have sustained gunshot injury in the neck and was rushed to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital in Awka by sympathisers.

It was gathered that doctors at the hospital confirmed him dead on arrival.

An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told newsmen Metro that there was no reason for the incident.

He explained that it was the custom of the policeman to shoot indiscriminately in the area.

He said, “The policeman shoots sporadically with his service pistol each time he visits the area.

“He is a drunk and each time he is inebrated, he behaves abnormally.

“He has been terrorising us. Everybody knows him around here because of his erratic behaviour.”

When contacted on the telephone, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Nkeiruka Nwode, said the matter had not been reported to her office.

Nwode, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said, “Are you sure that the shooter is a policeman?”
