In other to boost security in the country, Zimbabwe’s government has acquired a fleet of new vehicles worth nearly $1m for the country’s police.
The vehicles include buses, utility trucks and traffic enforcement vehicles.Police Commissioner Augustine Chihuri said the vehicles would help officers “in dealing with merchants and architects of the wave of violence currently threatening national security,” the Herald reported.
Home Affairs Minister Ignatius Chombo, said the two buses were outstanding from the previous delivery commissioned by President Mugabe in May last year.
The president had commissioned a fleet of 97 vehicles at a ceremony held at Morris Depot in May last year. The fleet included 77 trucks and 20 buses.
The country is in the grip of worsening cash shortage that has led to unrest amongst civilians who have been taking to the streets to protest.
