Few hours after Boko Haram released a video threatening to kidnap President Muhammadu Buhari, four members of the sect riding a motorbike have been killed by soldiers in a shootout at a village in Gaidam Local Government Area of Yobe State.
According to witnesses, the insurgents were spotted by soldiers on patrol near Jororo village at about 3 p.m on Wednesday.
A local government official and resident of Gaidam, Abdullahi Aminu, said one of the insurgents was caught while trying to escape.
“They were all heavily armed with AK47 rifles and wore ammunition belts.
“All of them were on Kasea motorcycles. We don’t know their targeted destination, but thank God it was thwarted”, Aminu told PREMIUM TIMES on phone.
At the time of publishing this report, the Nigerian Army was yet to confirm the report, but a soldier in the state, confirmed the incident.
“You know it is not my job to address the press on matters like this, but what you have is correct”, he said. “Those criminals have been evasive for some time but thank God that we have been able to nab them finally”.
