According to the Sports Ministry, 23 athletes and 12 officials from Team Nigeria arrived the games on Sunday evening.

Revealing details about the Team Nigeria athletes, the special assistant to the Sports Minister, Nneka Ikem-Anibeze revealed that six of them will take part in para-athletes 14 of them will participate and three in para table tennis. 

Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung has urged the athletes to be of good behaviour throughout the Games.

 

I congratulate you for qualifying for the Paralympic Games at a time the country is undergoing trials. One thing that amazes me about you is your determination, commitment and patriotism. As you go for the games, compete fairly, honestly and give it your best,” Dalung is quoted to say by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Whatever problems you may encounter, let us manage it very well. The idea of escalating our problems does not speak good of us as Nigerians.

 

We at the ministry of Youth and Sports have resolved that any athlete who goes out to represent Nigeria, will receive his or her bonus directly. All allowances will be paid to you before the games end” Dalung assured.

The opening ceremony of the Games holds on Wednesday, September 7 and the Nigeria will be hoping for better performances from its athletes after the unimpressive outing in Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

 

Nigeria won a total of 13 medals (six gold, five silvers and two bronze) at the last edition of the Paralympics in London 2012.
