The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has insisted that the country will not boycott the FIFA Women’s World Cup because of financial constraints.

The Flamingoes are billed to feature in the fifth edition of the FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup in Jordan, while the Falconets will play in the U-20 version in Papua New Guinea.

NFF media officer, Ademola Olajire, admits that the football house is still not buoyant enough, but it will not affect the teams’ participation.

“I want to assure that the NFF has never contemplated pulling out of any championship that we have qualified for, such as the U17 and U20 Women World Cup finals,” Olajire wrote in a statement.

“The NFF may be having financial challenges but it has not, and will never get to that ridiculous level.

“Fifa pays for the transportation of participating teams to competition venue, so we are basically talking about match bonuses, allowances and transportation of few other officials.

He further revealed that the federation’s general secretary, Mohammed Sanusi has constituted a committee to ensure the smooth preparations of these teams ahead of their various tournaments.

“Only three days ago, Mohammed Sanusi constituted a small secretariat team to work on modalities for final preparation of the Flamingos, Falconets and Super Falcons for their different final competitions later in the year, as well as logistics for the Super Eagles two World Cup qualifiers this year against Zambia.

“The mandate also extends to the Sand Eagles’ preparation for Nigeria 2016 Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations, which serves as qualifiers for the World Cup.”
