England manager Sam Allardyce says Jay Jay Okocha is the best captain he has worked with so far in his career.
Former Super Eagles skipper, Austin Jay Jay Okocha has gotten the praise of England boss Sam Allardyce whom he worked with during his time at Bolton Wanderers.
Okocha played under Allardyce at Bolton Wanderers during a four-year spell, scoring 14 goals in 124 appearances.
The former Nigeria international was Allardyce captain’s for two seasons and the England manager has named Okocha as the best skipper he played worked with.
“Jay Jay Okocha. On and off the field he was the captain you looked for,” the England boss said in an interview with UK Mirror.
"In a multi-national side from all over the world he could speak four different languages, communicate very well with some of the players who couldn’t speak quite as good English.
“He sorted the odd scuffle out in the dressing room, talked to the players about how we had to go out and win. He’d take the manager’s instructions and apply them in the right way.
“Then there was outstanding ability on the field, leading by example and showing everybody he wasn’t a mercenary which was suggested in the beginning, that he’d only come for the money. He became an iconic figure at Bolton Wanderers.”
Following his appointment as England boss, Okocha tipped his Allardyce for success with the three Lions.
Reacting to Allardyce’s appointment as new coach of England national team, Okocha called his former manager ‘an ambitious coach who wants to succeed everywhere he goes’.
