Prison inmates have been teargassed and live bullets are also being fired into cells as riot erupts in Kuje prison in Abuja.
According to a tweet posted few minutes ago by SaharaReporters, there is an ongoing unrest at the Kuje prison in Abuja where the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu is spending time in detention.
Reports have it that live bullets and tear gas are reportedly being fired against the rampaging prisoners.
A source said: ”There is a lock down in the prison, prisons officials are throwing tear-gas at the inmates to cow them because of the last jail break.”
Speaking with Vanguard, some of the inmates who complained that they were dying, said: “We do not know what they want to do with us, some people are on the ground now rolling and crying.”
“There is no jail break, yet they woke up this morning to start shooting tear gas at us,” the source added.
The real cause of the riot and the degree of damage to the facility is not yet ascertained as at the time of filing this report.
