THE President General of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club, Dr Rafiu Ladipo, has showered praises on Nigeria’s U-23 team for winning bronze medal at the just concluded 31st Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil. Ladipo noted that it was indeed great to see the team achieve such feat despite all the troubles the players and officials encountered.
He said: “We are happy as Nigerians to see the team win a medal under such a difficult situation. Many other strong teams like Sweden, Denmark and Portugal took part in the competition but went home with nothing.
“The players deserve commendation for demonstrating the Nigerian spirit all through the competition. They arrived the venue just four hours to their first match and managed to win. That was a surprise.
“Overall, the team was the saving grace of Nigeria in the competition since the bronze they won is the only medal.”
On the role played by the club in the third place match, Ladipo explained that the body mobilized members quickly on arrival to boost the support for U-23 team against Honduras.
“It was not difficult for us because we were here two years ago and we have our members here to assist in doing the job. Overall, we thank God all was not in vain,” he said.
