ABUJA—President Muhammadu Buhari has described the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, as a patriotic Nigerian who has demonstrated uncommon leadership style.
The President also hailed the Sultan’s wisdom and advocacy for security, peace and unity of Nigeria.
Buhari’s commendation was contained in his congratulatory message to the traditional ruler on his 60th birthday, today.
This is just as United States’ Secretary of State, John Kerry, lauded the efforts of the Sultan at promoting religious tolerance and understanding among Nigerians.
A statement by Mr. Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, yesterday, stated that “Buhari joins the people and government of Sokoto State, the Muslim community and family members of the Sultan in celebrating the unique anniversary.”
Kerry, on his part, lauded the efforts of the Sultan at promoting religious tolerance and understanding among Nigerians.
Kerry, who spoke during a courtesy call on the Sultan at his palace yesterday, said that the Sultanate Council was building a community of tolerance for peace, progress and political stability in Nigeria.
He said the United States would continue to identify itself with the Sultanate in strengthening religious tolerance and understanding among Nigerians.
Governor Aminu Tambuwal, who accompanied Kerry to the palace, said the state government would continue to strengthen peaceful coexistence among the people, irrespective of religious, tribal and political differences.
