After losing two games at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games basketball contest, D’Tiger’s player Josh Akognon believes the Nigeria team can breath life into their campaign by beating Spain and hosts Brazil in their next two match.
D’ Tigers capitulated in the last quarter of their game against Lithuania losing 80-89 points in Tuesday night’s game. This was after they were humbled by Argentina 94-66 points in their opening match.
Akognon reckoned that beating Spain will be vital to the team’s survival in the chase for the gold medal, adding that D’Tigers will strive to avoid the mistakes that they made in their previous games.
“Spain are going to be on their game as well, we are both zero-and-two, so we are both kind of fighting for our lives right now.
“We are going to come out with even more intensity against them and we are going to learn from our mistakes this time,” Akognon said.
Nigeria need to win their last three matches against Spain Brazil and Croatia to stand any chance of advancing in the Games.
