Okere bags NCS Presidential Award

The National Computer Society (NCS) at her Annual Conference last week in Abuja chose Mr Austin Okere, Founder CWG Plc and Entrepreneur in Residence Columbia Business School, New York, for the this year’s Special Recognition Award.

Acting Executive Secretary of the Society, Mr. IyiolaAyoola, said that “this special Presidential Award is in recognition of Okere’s invaluable contribution to the Society, the growth and promotion of ICT and enhancement of professionalism”.

He further explained that the award goes to Individuals that have promoted the teaching, usage, development and application of Information Technology for human capacity development and economic growth in Nigeria.

The Nigeria Computer Society is the umbrella organization of all Information Technology Professionals, Interest Groups and Stakeholders in Nigeria. Formed in 1978, NCS is the national platform for the advancement of Information Technology Science and Practice in Nigeria, collaborating with relevant governments, institutions and organisations in proffering solutions to the issues of the Digital Divide. 

Accepting the award, an elated Okere expressed appreciation to the NCS for the honour of the recognition, while dedicating it to his colleagues and all stakeholders of CWG. According to Austin “Today I feel very connected to the saying ‘if I stand tall, it is because I am standing on the shoulders of giants’. It resonates very deeply when I consider the strong team that I have been blessed to work with”

Recall that Austin okere was awarded ICT Personality of the year by the NCS in 2014. He was appointed entrepreneur in residence at Columbia Business School in New York in 2009 and has been serving on the World Economic Forum Business Council on Innovation and Intrapreneurship since 2013. Austin was appointed into the Advisory Board of the Global Business School Network in June 2016, and was also appointed into the Governing Council of the Institute of Directors of Nigeria during the same period.

After founding CWG Plc in 1992, Okere has led the company to become the leading player in the ICT sectorwith solutions across Financial, Telecoms and the Oil Sector, and with aspiration to be the largest Cloud Provider in Africa by 2020. The company is a major promoter of social impact investing, providing needed technology to Small and Medium Enterprises on a subscription basis. With offices in Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda and Cameroon, and annual revenues of $100m, CWG was listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange in 2013 as the largest security in the ICT sector. The company was recognized in 2014 by the World Economic Forum as a global growth company, based on her phenomenal growth, global corporate citizenship, executive leadership and impact on the competitive landscape of the ICT industry in Africa.
